GTA 5 Toy Cars Mod Shrinks Your Car, Then Traps You Inside

GTA 5 modders have kept the game alive for years. Some add storms, others eliminate friction in vehicles. Now, a new mod is making the rounds, literally shrinking every vehicle to the size of a toy. Interestingly, a player who tried this mod was trapped inside his own vehicle.

What is this “Toy Cars” mod?

PC Gamer writer Joshua Wolens is experimenting with adding a new mod to GTA 5 every day. His series is called “Los Santos Customs.” The goal is to either make GTA 5 more like GTA 6, or completely break it.

In this context, he ran a mod called “Toy Cars – Make any car tiny.” As the name suggests, it shrinks any vehicle, just like the Micro Machines cars of our childhood.

The mod keeps the vehicle’s appearance, sound, and feel the same, except there’s a hidden RC-sized body underneath that handles the scaled-down impact, suspension, and road physics.

Then where did the mistake happen?

Wolens first teleported into a taxi, as most vehicles were in the air and couldn’t be captured normally. After driving for a while, he pressed F7, the key to minimize the vehicle.

The shrinking part went perfectly. The taxi became tiny in an instant. But after that, everything went out of control. According to the author, the game probably thought the car no longer had a driver. As a result, the car started running like a frightened horse. It kept bumping into walls and passing under low arches. The player had no control over it.

The most interesting thing was that pressing F to exit the car resulted in a message on the screen stating that there were no deer nearby. This meant the player was being held hostage, and the game was informing them of the presence of deer.

How did you survive?

To their relief, pressing F7 again returned the vehicle to its original size, freeing the player. The author wrote with a hint of sadness that he longed for a chance to live in a tiny world like “Borrowers,” but perhaps he would get that some other day.

The author also clarified that the mod was not at fault. The mod appeared to work fine in its original state, and the issue was with the game’s driver recognition.

Our opinion

GTA 5 has been around for so many years, yet the mod community keeps it fresh. These mods play with the game’s overall physics, so the occasional bug isn’t a big deal. And these bugs often provide the biggest laughs.

If you also play GTA 5 on PC and want to try such mods, then make sure to backup your game’s save file first, because mods can take the game to a strange turn at any time.
