Who did this unique experiment?

PC Gamer writer Joshua Wolens is currently running a series called “Los Santos Customs.” In it, he adds a new mod to GTA 5 every day. His goal is to either make the game more like the PC version of GTA 6 or completely break it. This time, he tried the Backflip mod in this series.

GTA 5 characters lack “grace”

Joshua jokingly wrote that no matter how powerful the characters in GTA 5 are, their movements lack grace. They look a bit bulky and walk like small children struggling to control their large bodies. Everyone who has played GTA has felt this at some point.

To address this shortcoming, they created this mod. The creator simply describes it as a simple single-player backflip mod.

How does this mod work?

It’s very easy to use. Page Down Press down, and your character performs a mid-air flip right in place. After completing the flip, they stand up as if they’ve accomplished a great feat.

Joshua particularly liked the Page Down feature. According to him, most of the keyboard’s keys are already occupied by other modes. Page Down was one of the few keys that remained unused.

When the backflip fails

The most interesting thing about the mod is the developer’s warning. He clearly states that there’s a chance the backflip will fail, and if so, the character will become a “ragdoll,” that is, fall to the ground like a lifeless doll.

Joshua found in testing that the failures didn’t occur mid-flip. In fact, the character collapsed before the flip even began, as soon as the button was pressed. He jokingly remarked that many of his own ideas also fail in a similar way before they even begin. This is a laughable read, and it reminds us all of ourselves.

Other exploits by Los Santos Customs

This isn’t the first time Joshua has played around with GTA 5. He’s already done some weird experiments with the series:

  • to the game Golf Simulator convert into
  • of vehiclesFriction Stop try it and see what happens
  • Installing so many mods that the game only opens in windowed mode
  • Considering the atmosphere of October, in the game Zombie Add
  • Turning the game into a “shapeshifting” game

All this makes it clear why GTA 5 has enjoyed such a long life on PC. The world Rockstar created is kept alive by the modding community, creating new additions every day.

Why is GTA 5 important amidst the buzz of GTA 6?

All eyes are on GTA 6 these days, and as PC Gamer’s site shows, every bit of news about it is being discussed. Yet, the story of GTA 5 mods shows that an old game never becomes obsolete if its fans keep breathing new life into it.

The Back Flip Mod isn’t a major graphics upgrade or offers new missions. But that’s its strength. It’s mindless fun, and that’s what’s most memorable in a game like GTA.

conclusion

Sometimes the most memorable things in gaming aren’t the big updates, but the little crazy things like this. The Back Flip Mod does just that: it lets the massive characters of Los Santos do somersaults through the air, even if they sometimes fall flat on their backs.
